Game Closed
Played from October 2004 to December 2009.

The Mortal Tears LARP was a World of Darkness game managed by Natalya that allowed players to create characters based on Dark Ages Vampire, Dark Ages Werewolf, Wraith the Oblivion, and of course, humans.

While Mortal Tears was a popular game, Natalya decided it was time to move to on. Her full statement can be read below.

Photos from Mortal Tears can be found in the Gallery.

STATEMENT OF GAME CLOSURE: May 11th, 2009

December 2009
This marks the conclusion of the story of Mortal Tears.

Why is this happening?
Honestly, I am burning out from running a game system that is far too complicated and cumbersome to maintain. The portion of the game that involves going to Camp Brinkley and playing the game is fun, but there is far too much work in between for all the Staff, and even some of them are getting burned out as well. I know burnout can have a serious negative affects on a game, and I have reached the point where its best to call it a good game before it gets ugly.

Why Mortal Tears will not change ownership
When Dave A. and I started MT, we made a vow that should we ever decide not to run the game anymore, that we will call it a good game, but never hand it over to anyone else. Our reason for this vow stems from our observations of other games changing ownership over the past 14 years of larping.

Dave and I have personally experienced the disappointment in seeing the game we played and loved switch owners under the promise that the game was not going to change. But, since each person has their own idea of how a larp should be, the new owners did change the game, and it was never the same again. The players' positive expectations were broken, and it only bred animosity toward the game.

We do not want memories of Mortal Tears followed up with a 'too bad the game sucks now' comment. We want people to look back on this game and remember the fun they had in the awesome story that they were a part of.

I want to be open, honest and up front with all of you by telling you that the story of Mortal Tears is coming to a conclusion and that while the new story is set in the Dark Medieval of the World of Darkness, it will be a different experience. I want to make sure that your expectations are true and that you are not misled.

What if someone started a game similar to Mortal Tears?
I am totally cool if someone wanted to start a game based on MT, and I'm ok if the public rules that players request through the website are used. However, if someone started such a game, they would have to start their own BSA charter, use a different name for the game (to ensure the 'different game' expectation), collect their own deco, costumes, and props, create their own game tags, paperwork and website, and write their own staff policies and private storyteller rules.

While I am open to assist those who want to run a larp, I think that assisting someone putting together a game based on MT could turn into a conflict of interest should I decide to run MT again. Not to mention, it would probably cause a lot of confusion ("wait...biomechine has two games that are basically the same...?") :P

In closing, I hope I addressed everything, though if I didn't please ask me. I know many of you are bummed and believe me I totally understand, but I hope that you will also understand my reasons and recognize that I am doing what is best for all involved.

Thanks,

Nat
